Draft Labelling Regulations Workshop - Information

A one-day workshop has been organised for food professionals to familiarise themselves with the newly released-for-comment regulations. The Directorate of Food Control of the Department of Health has kindly made Mrs Antoinette Booyzen, Assistant Director responsible for Regulatory Nutrition Issues at the Directorate, to speak on the draft regulation preparation and rationale and to answer delegates' questions. In addition to this, a few short presentations on topics relevant to the regulations, will be given by invited food professionals.

Note that Mrs Booyzen will also be giving a short presentation on the regulations during the Congress and that she will be responding at lunch the following day to questions submitted at the presentation. (See www.saafost2007.org.za, 4 September, parallel session 3C, Food Regulations, Hall 5AB)

Format: Registering delegates will be asked to submit questions and comments prior to the workshop. This will enable Mrs Booyzen, who will be available for the greater part of the day's programme, to focus on areas of greatest interest and concern to them and it will also facilitate her responses. The topics to be addressed by other invited speakers will also be determined by feedback from registering delegates. The WHO Global Strategy on Diet, would be one typical topic.
